Grants for students for the 2010/2011 academic year Our student grants are for Lambeth residents from low-income households to assist with the costs of post-secondary education, whether academic or vocational, that has a strong likelihood of leading to work. Recipients or their families are in receipt of means-tested out-of-work benefits, earning very low wages, or without access to state benefits. Allowed costs include -
- course fees (not for private institutions)
- associated travel costs
- books
- special clothing
- equipment
- study/field trips
- childcare
- reasonable general living expenses
These grants can be up to £2000 for each academic year (most are not as high as this). A university student could receive up to £6000 during a three year course. Award amounts very much depend on the financial circumstances of the applicant and the requirements of the course. A thorough financial assessment is carried out. An interview (either in person or by telephone) may be required.
