MAGNIFICENT 7 WEEKEND FUNDRAISER, JUNE 8-10

The ‘Magnificent 7′ SMP members will be putting all their recent training to use this weekend as their endurance challenge finally arrives. They will be raising money for the SMP through sponsorship and donations. Donations can also be made via the Localgiving link on the home page. Please come along and cheer them on.

Weekend Itinerary

Day 1 – Friday 8th June

  • 17:30-20:30 – Hyde Park Duathlon

5 mile run (Hyde Park & Kensington Gardens)

3 miles (lap of Hyde Park)

2.5 miles (1 lap around the Serpentine)

Day 2 – Saturday 9th June

  • 09:00-12:00 – Stair Climb Challenge on the Northern Line
  • 17 stations, over 2000 steps
  • 13:30-16:30 – Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP), Olympic Park
  • 2 mile route around the Olympic Park

Day 3 – Sunday 10th June

  • 09:30-12:00 – Boris Bike Challenge – Westminster, Zone 1 docking stations
  • Dock into as many stations as possible in 2 hours
  • 14:00-16:00 – Circle Line Half Marathon – Westminster
  • Run the whole of the Circle Line, from one station to the next – the twist? The yellow line on the platform has to be touched and a photo taken
  • 16:00 onwards – finish line at Temple station
  • After Party Somerset House (just by the finish line at Temple Station)

RUNNING FOR LIFE FILM PROJECT

The St. Matthew’s Project has teamed up again with Sky Sports News presenter Charlie Webster and ex-army captain Tobias Mews for a new, independent film project – ‘Running for Life’. The seven ‘lucky’ SMP members taking part will undertake a gruelling programme of events including stand-up paddling down the Thames, a 400m swim across the Serpentine, a half  marathon of the London Underground and more. GIRLS’ 5-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT

DATE: Saturday February 4th 2012 VENUE: Mulberry Sports Complex, Commercial Road, Whitechapel E1.

We are taking two teams to the Bangladesh Football Association’s 5-a-side female football tournament.  All girls must be at Ferndale for a 09:45 meet; the minibus will leave at 10.00 sharp. We hope to return to Brixton by no later than 3.00pm (with a trophy). Please note: if you are not travelling to east London, there will be no Saturday session at Ferndale. Full SMP kit will be provided and games will take place on Astroturf. Tescos Express adjacent to venue for refreshments.

ACCREDITED TRAINING FOR 16+

As part of our new training programme for young people aged 16+, we will be working in partnership with Fit For Sport to offer our members the chance to gain certificates in sports related courses, including NVQ 1&2, and boost their chances of employment. Fit For Sport, the UK’s leading healthy lifestyle activities provider, has a number of opportunities including Accredited Training, Pre-Employability, Apprenticeships and Employment Opportunities across London.
