Sporteducate Programme

In February 2017 SMP celebrated our contribution to a unique London-wide education programme which has helped over 2,000 disadvantaged young people across London improve their employability, since it launched in May 2013. We were one of the first pilot schemes chosen to roll out the programme, delivering an after-school programme of core curriculum classes and sport for pupils in Years 5 – 9 at risk of falling behind. We worked in Jubilee Primary School, Tulse Hill and Lambeth Academy, Clapham.

In the end-of-programme results for Sporteducate published by the delivery partners, Sported and Deutsche Bank:

  • More young people enjoyed learning (increasing from 61 to 81%)
  • More young people were performing at a ‘Good’ or ‘Excellent’ level at school (increasing from 70 to 87%)
  • 57% of young people reported improved behaviour at school
  • More young people thought that a future career was important (increasing from 78 to 94%)

Sported have used the learning and insight developed over the three-and-a-half years to produce a new toolkit to help communities groups launch and run their own Sport for Development programmes. With funding from the Peter Minet Trust, SMP are now running a new programme in Jubilee Primary School and will be rolling out the programme in other local schools and community centres.
